The Directorate General of Resettlement has the overall
responsibility for resettlement of Ex-servicemen (including
officers), their widows and dependents and the disabled Armed
Forces personnel invalidated out of service.
Directorates of DGR
The resettlement schemes are implemented through the following
Directorates of DGR:
(a) The Training Directorate organizes
resettlement training for the retiring as well as retired
service officers, JCOs /ORs and their equivalent from Air
Force and Navy. The training programs are conducted through
Government, semi-Govt. and private institutions of repute
at various places in the country. Resettlement training programme
covers a wide range of subjects. New courses are added to
increase employability.
(b) The serving officers, undergoing resettlement training
organized, are treated on duty up to a maximum period of six
months but they are not paid any traveling, daily allowance
or given traveling on railway warrant. The officers pay 40%
of the course fee, PBORs on training are considered as on
temporary duty and are given normal allowances. All courses
are free for PBOR.
(c) The Employment Directorate interacts
with the corporate sector and private sector to create more
employment avenues for ex-servicemen, widows and dependents.
The ex-servicemen and widows must acquire skills through training
to enhance their chances of employability. All ex-servicemen
and widows registered with Director Employment are sponsored
against requests received from the civil sector
(d) The Officers can register their names for employment assistance
with the Dte. of Employment at any time during the last two
years of service or after release orders have been issued
for officers seeking premature retirement. PBORs can register
12 months before the actual date of release. DGR allotted
security agencies offer self employment to officers and employment
to PBORs. States/UTs have also promised reservations in Group
‘C’ & ‘D’ posts.
(e) The Dte of Self Employment offers the
following schemes for rehabilitation and resettlement of ex-servicemen/widows:-
(i) Coal Transport Company
(ii) Tipper Truck scheme
(iii) Oil product agencies
(iv) Army surplus class V vehicles
(v) Self employment ventures
