To broaden public understanding of Air Force's role in the nation's security and welfare
About Employment
IntroductionEvery year about 250 officers and approximately 4500 airmen retire from the Indian Air Force at a relatively young age. The Officers generally retire in their early fifties and the airmen retire in the age group of 35 – 45. They are such at stage of life where they have numerous unfinished family commitments and other domestic compulsions, thus making it essential for them to take up a second career option. Being in the prime years of their life and having been groomed over the years with a result oriented culture; they acquire skills, potentials and expertise in various fields. This trained and disciplined force is practically available at all places in the country. To help such personnel find a suitable occupancy after retirement, a Placement Cell was created in Feb 1999 at AFA Head Office in Delhi as a part of the Air Force Association within its overall ambit of looking after the welfare needs of the retired community. A few branches of AFA also have Placement Cells. The Placement Cell at AFA Delhi is presently headed by Gp Capt Ashok Sethi (Retd). |

| How Placement Cell Helps The main function of this Cell is to offer assistance to those ex-Air Force Personnel who need to take up a gainful occupancy after retirement so as to help them in their process of resettlement in civil life. The steps involve registration of retirees, matching their profile vis-à-vis qualitative requirements set out by the employer and arranging for their interview for final selection by the employer. The Cell acts as a facilitator between the employer and the employee. It does not guarantee a job for every registrant. |

| The Cell maintains a databank on computer. Upon receipt of requests from the prospective employers, it shortlists the candidates from the records held in its data bank and sponsors selected candidates for interview by the employer. Out of about 5000 registrants, the Placement Cell has been successful in providing jobs to 500 ex-Air Force Personnel as on 31 Mar 2011. | |||
