History of Air force association UP branch
The Tamil Nadu Branch of the Air Force Association was simultaneously formed on 15 Sep 1980 with the Air Force Association at Delhi, under the Presidentship of Air Mshl BS Krishnarao PVSM (Retd) assisted by a team of retired Air Force personnel which include Wg Cdr CB Amarendra (Retd), Wg Cdr DK Sundaram (Retd), Wg Cdr P Ramamurthy (Retd), Wg Cdr Padmanabhan (Retd), Sqn Ldr CPA Nair (Retd), Ex-MWO Chokalingam, Ex-Sgt Joseph and Ex-Cpl Ganapathy. The President converted a room in his house as the office of AFA TN Branch. He did not have any secretarial assistance and used to personally write the letters to all concerned by hand and post them himself. The office functioned all these years at the resident of the President. Locating the office at a permanent place was seriously taken up and with the assistance and cooperation of AOC Air Force Station Tambaram, it was decided to open the office within the Air Force Station Tambaram Campus. The new office was inaugurated by Air Mshl BK Pandey PVSM AVSM VM, the then Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Training Command on 20 Mar 2004. The office is open on six day in a week and manned by volunteers. It is gratifying to report that after shifting to the new permanent location, as compared to earlier years, there is greater utilization of the branch office services by members. |

Branch Activities The branch celebrated its 30th Anniversary on 25 Sep 2010 at Roopvani Auditorium, AF Station, Tambaram. Air Mshl S Raghavan PVSM AVSM VSM (Retd) presided over the function. Air Mshl PV Athawale PVSM AVSM VSM ADC, AOC-in-C Maintenance Command was the chief guest. Air Cmde Sanjay Sharma, AOC AF Station Tambaram and Air Cmde HB Rajaram, AOC AF Station Avadi also participated. The function was attended by more than 400 members from across Tamilnadu. Thirteen octogenarians were presented with AFA mementos and gifts from both Air Force Stations. A ready reckoner titled ‘Air Force Pensioners’ Guide’, compiled by Air Veteran M Arivarasu (retired as Senior Manager from Indian Overseas Bank) was released by the Chief Guest. All the copies were sold out in a flash. In his key note address, Air Mshl PV Athawale briefly mentioned about the developments taking place in IAF. He also talked about the steps being taken to resolve various anomalies that have arisen in respect of pensioners / family pensioners of different groups of personnel. On the request of the Branch, a Defence Pensioners meet was organized at AF Stn, Tambaram SBI branch at 1230hrs on 27 Jan 11. The meet was co-chaired by Wg Cdr AM Balakrishnan (Retd), Secretary, AFA Tambaram chapter and Smt Akalya Samuel, Branch Manager. A good number of pensioners and family pensioners attended and projected their difficulties. All the cases were segregated into two groups viz those to be sorted out locally at the branch level and those to be handled at CPPC. Accordingly follow up actions have been initiated. |
