| History of Air force association UK branch The Branch was started by Gp Capt George Joyce in 1988, he had met with Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh on a visit to Delhi earlier that year. Present at the first meeting were Gp Capt & Mrs Joyce, (late) Wg Cdr A Almeida who volunteered to be the Branch Secretary, Flt Lt and Mrs Norman Walker, Air Cmde and Mrs David Bouche, Air Cmde and Mrs Wilson, Gp Capt McNeil, Wg Cdr CHL Digby, (late)Wg Cdr Bajaj, Wg Cdr DB Das, Wg Cdr Guy Newton, and a few others. Gp Capt Joyce was the President till 1998 until Sqn Ldr IS Loughran took over. After the sad demise of Wg Cdr A Almeida, Wg Cdr M Chater has been the branch Secretary and Treasurer. We are still hoping for some volunteers to take over these posts. Membership is entirely voluntary and the office bearers are also volunteers. Some members have contributed to help us make a “Flight Fund” that pays for the postage and printing of our letters. The UK Branch held their 2008 Reunion at the Toby Carvery, Slough on 27th September. The turn out was very good, a few new faces showed up, Gp Capt and Mrs Luke McKenzie (son of late Air Cmde John McKenzie), Flt Lt (now Capt; VP Ops at Jet Airways) K Mohan and his wife Nikkie. Some of the widows and friends of the AFA, and Brig David Wilson son of Air Cmde and Mrs Pete Wilson. David has in Sierra Leone and also in Basra with HM Forces. |
